5 mistakes to avoid when cooking pasta
- Too early in the water: Do not put the noodles in the water until it is boiling. If you put them in earlier, you won’t be able to rely on the cooking time stated on the package.
- Add oil to the water: Oil in the water should prevent the noodles from sticking together later. But the oil only floats on the surface and wets the noodles with a thin film when they are drained. Although this prevents sticking together, it also repels the pasta sauce.
- Putting pasta down: The Italian housewife would shiver down his spine if she saw someone douse their pasta with cold water after cooking. This will wash the starch off the pasta, preventing it from absorbing the pasta sauce. Also, nobody wants cold pasta on their plate.
- Make noodles wait: You should serve your noodles right after draining. With every minute you wait for the sauce, you lose a little bit of quality and get cold. Instead, it’s better to prep the sauce and cooks the pasta a la minute.
- Put the noodles in the sauce: There is actually nothing wrong with adding the noodles to the sauce after cooking. They then absorb the flavor of the sauce as they simmer. However, you will continue to cook in the hot sauce. Therefore, you should drain the pasta that you want to add to the sauce before it is done and cook in the sauce until done.
