Currywurst sauce Sambal Oelek

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 1 pointed pepper, red
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • some oil for frying
  • 1 tsp, heaped curry powder, mild
  • 175 g ajvar
  • 200 ml tomato ketchup
  • 100 ml water
  • 1 tsp, heaped sambal oelek
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Cut the onion into thin wedges, halve the bell peppers lengthwise and then cut them crosswise into thin strips. Season the chopped vegetables with a little salt and a pinch of sugar. Heat a pan and fry the prepared vegetables in a little vegetable oil over medium heat. Reduce the heat, add the curry powder, and fry lightly. Bring the ajvar, tomato ketchup, sambal oelek, and water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the fried vegetables to the sauce and simmer over low heat. Season to taste with pepper, salt, curry powder, and sambal oelek. Serve the sauce with currywurst and French fries.
