Dumplings: Lazy Women Dumplings

  • 800 g Potatoes, boiling floury
  • 400 g Potato flour
  • 125 ml Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 piece Egg
  • Roasted bread cubes
  1. Boil the potatoes until soft, let them cool and then grate them.
  2. Mix with the potato flour and salt.
  3. Bring the milk to the boil and use it to brew the potatoes. Work in the egg and form dumplings with wet hands, which are filled with a few toasted bread cubes.
  4. Let the dumplings soak in slightly simmering salted water for between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on their size.
  5. These dumplings were called “lazy women dumplings” because it was assumed that Thuringian housewives who were not so hardworking wanted to grate the raw potatoes and only made the national dish with the cooked parts. 😉
