English bread casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 slice(s) white bread, thinly sliced
  • 50 g butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 100 g sultanas
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ liter of milk
  • some nutmeg, ground
  • 1 tbsp sugar for sprinkling
  • 20 g butter for spreading
  • Butter for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Grease a pie dish (approximately 24 cm in diameter) or a shallow casserole dish with butter. Butter the bread slices and cut into strips or triangles. Line the dish with half the bread and sprinkle with half the sugar and the dried fruit. Repeat this process. Whisk the eggs and egg yolk with the milk and pour over the bread. Let stand for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Sprinkle the pudding with a little nutmeg and the sugar. Place in the preheated oven and bake on the middle rack for about 45 minutes.
