Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 188 g toast bread, alternatively biscuit leftovers or bread leftovers
  • 125 ml milk
  • 50 g butter, melted
  • 70 g brown sugar
  • 125 g dried fruit or 250 g raisins or cranberries
  • 1 tsp, leveled nutmeg
  • 1 tsp, leveled cinnamon powder
  • ½ tsp ginger powder or freshly grated
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 4 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes; Total time approx. 5 hours 30 minutes

for a small casserole dish of 25 x 15 cm, with dried fruits

Cube the bread (I used about 3/4 of a loaf of toast). Soak it in milk for at least 4 hours or overnight. Stir in the sugar, melted butter, dried fruit, eggs, and spices, then pour the mixture into a small 24 x 15 cm casserole dish. Bake in the oven at 180°C (convection oven) or 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 60-75 minutes. The bread didn’t soak for 4 hours, but it still tasted great. You can make it however you like. Traditionally, it was a recipe for using up leftover cookies, bread, etc.
