Filleting fish: This is how it works

Filleting fish is not difficult. In order for it to work, the right technique is important. First, get fish from a trusted vendor. Make sure you buy fresh fish. Prepare the fish by frying or grilling it, for example. Finally, when filleting, do the following:

  1. Place the fish on a solid surface such as a cutting board. Pull out the fish’s dorsal fin. Use a fish knife and a fork for this.
  2. Now separate the skin along the back. Cut them through at the head and at the tail fin so that you can easily pull them off. Rotate the knife on itself to allow the skin to curl onto the knife.
  3. Release the top fillet behind the head. Separate the fish meat down to the bones.
  4. Detach the fillet of fish meat from the fish bones. Use the flat side of the fish knife for this. Also, use a fork to help.

Serve fish fillet correctly and Co.

Once you have removed the fillet from the bones, it is best to place it on a preheated plate. Then proceed as follows:

  1. Separate the bottom fillet from the bone. Start with the tail. Help yourself with a fork and the fish knife.
  2. Lift up the middle bone. Be careful not to leave any bones on the meat of the fish. Also, separate the fillet at the head.
  3. Place the bottom fillet cut-side down on the serving plate. Pick up the skin with a fork and twist.
  4. Slightly lift the gill covers from behind. Then use the tip of the fish knife to cut out the fish cheeks.
