Gnocchi Recipe: These are The Basic Ingredients

The quantities in our recipe are for 4 people.

  • You need 1 kg of floury potatoes.
  • You also need an egg.
  • So that the gnocchi can be processed well, prepare 200 g of flour. You may not need all of the flour.
  • Season the gnocchi batter with 1 tablespoon salt. If you like nutmeg, you can also add some of that to the dough.

The recipe for gnocchi

Gnocchi goes well with almost any sauce and fills you up significantly more than pasta.

  • First of all, prepare jacket potatoes, which you remove from their skins after cooking.
  • Mash the potatoes until finely mashed. There shouldn’t be any lumps left here. Just be careful not to mash for too long or the dough will become slimy.
  • Then add the salt, the egg, and half the flour and mix everything together.
  • Then put the dough on a floured work surface and knead it well. You can also add more flour here if needed to keep it from being too sticky.
  • Now separate the dough into 4 parts and then quarter them again so that you have a total of 16 small balls.
  • Roll a ball into a 2 cm thick roll. Now cut them into small pieces, which should be about the width of your thumb.
  • Using a fork, press the ridges onto the gnocchi.
  • Bring salted water to a boil and add the gnocchi. They’re done as soon as they float to the surface.
  • We recommend using a slotted spoon to remove the gnocchi.
  • Our tip: Gnocchi tastes particularly good if you fry them in melted butter and with a sage leaf.
