For the self-filtered coffee you need the following ingredients and tools:

  • You need a coffee grinder, a household scale, and a coffee pot. You also need a kettle so that you can boil the water.
  • You also need coffee beans. You can buy the beans in a specialist shop and select them according to your taste. Filter the coffee with a hand filter, a spoon, and filter bags.

Filter coffee by hand – that’s how it’s done

  1. First, grind the coffee using the coffee grinder. The amount for a normal cup of coffee with 250 milliliters is about 15 to 20 grams of coffee. You can vary the amount if you want a stronger or weaker coffee.
  2. After you have ground the coffee, fold the paper filter on the edge and place it in the hand filter. Then place the filter on the coffee pot.
  3. Boil the water in the kettle and add it to the ground coffee. However, only enough so that the surface is slightly damp. Pour the water evenly over the coffee in a circular motion. Then let it soak in for about half a minute.
  4. Once the first water has been drawn in, add the rest of the water. You should also distribute this over the coffee in even movements. If the amount of water gets to the top of the filter, wait for some to pass through before adding the remaining water.
