Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 5 pairs of bratwurst
  • 750 ml water
  • 250 ml vinegar
  • 4 large onions
  • 250 ml white wine (preferably from Franconia)
  • 2 carnations
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 10 g peppercorns
  • 10 g juniper berries
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • 1 carrot(s)
  • 1 small celery

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Bratwurst in wine sauce

Boil water, vinegar, onion rings, chopped carrots, and celery until the vegetables are tender. Then add all the remaining ingredients, including the wine, and simmer for a while. Add the sausages and let them simmer for 20 minutes. Serve in the broth and serve with black bread. A delicious recipe from my hometown, served in many Heckenwirtschaften (small rural restaurants run by winegrowers) here.
