If you have a lot of muffins at home, you can easily freeze them. This extends the shelf life of the delicious pastry by a few months.
Freeze muffins: this is how it works
If you have baked too many muffins or received them as gifts, you can freeze the pastries. To do this, follow these steps:
- Before you freeze the muffins, you should let them cool completely.
- If you baked your muffins in paper cases, you should remove them before freezing, otherwise, the cases will stick to the pastry.
- Now you need a container that is suitable for the freezer compartment. Here, for example, cans made of stainless steel or plastic come into question.
- Place your muffins in the container. Make sure the pastries are not touching or the muffins will stick together.
- Then close the jar tightly. In order not to forget when the pastry was frozen, you can write the date on the tin.
- The muffins will keep in the freezer for at least three months.
How to defrost muffins
If you are going to eat the muffins, here are a few things to keep in mind when defrosting:
- To prevent the muffins from drying out, you should let them thaw slowly. Avoid defrosting in the microwave.
- Instead, place the tin containing the pastry in the refrigerator. Let the muffins thaw slowly there for a few hours.
- After the muffin has defrosted, you can microwave it for half a minute. So it tastes like freshly baked.
- You can also put the muffin in the oven at 100 °C for about 5 minutes after defrosting in the fridge to warm it up.
