Freeze lemon slices
Lemons can easily be frozen in slices. These can be reused later, for example for decoration or as an aroma in drinks. Be sure to buy organic, untreated lemons without a layer of wax.
- Wash the citrus and dry well.
- Slice the washed lemon. It doesn’t matter whether the slices are thinner or thicker.
- Place the slices side by side in a shallow bowl and place in the freezer.
- After about two hours, remove the lemons and pack them in bags or freezer boxes. In this way, the discs do not stick together and you can later remove them individually.
- The lemon slices can be kept for at least three months without losing their aroma.
Freeze whole citrus fruits
You can also freeze lemons whole.
- Wash the fruit thoroughly and then dry it.
- You don’t have to wrap the whole fruit in foil. Simply place the lemon unwrapped in the freezer.
- If you need lemon zest, take a grater and grate the required amount from the frozen fruit.
- Then put the leftover lemon in a freezer bag and put it back in the freezer.
- If you need a whole lemon, let it thaw at room temperature.
- The whole fruit can also be frozen for three months.
Freeze portions of lemon juice
If you need fresh lemon juice more often, freeze the juice instead of the whole fruit.
- First, you need to squeeze the lemons.
- Pour the lemon juice into an ice cube tray with a lid and place in the freezer.
- You can either thaw the juice in the fridge for further use or add the frozen cubes to drinks.
- You should use the lemon juice within six weeks as it quickly loses its aroma.
