How to preserve lemons
You can preserve lemons for a longer period of time with very simple tricks, we will explain how to do it:
- Water: Place the whole lemons in a glass of water or a large container. The water must completely enclose the lemons. Change it every day to keep the lemons fresh for several days. Put the jar in the fridge or in the cold cellar.
- Tissue Paper: To keep the lemons for longer, wrap them in tissue paper. Wrap the tissue paper loosely around the lemons and then place in a cool place. They can stay fresh for two to three weeks.
- Freezing: If you have enough lemons and want to juice them, you should freeze the juice afterwards. You can defrost it if necessary and add it to a dressing, for example. You can also freeze the juice into ice cubes and add it to your drinks on warm days.
- Lemon oil: You can store lemon oil for a very long time. Squeeze about 100 milliliters of lemon juice and mix it with 100 milliliters of olive oil. Grate some lemon zest into the mixture. Then pour it into a jar. If you want to use the oil, sift it through a household sieve to remove the remains of the peel.
- Vinegar: Put halved lemons in vinegar to make them last longer. Put some vinegar on a plate and place the cut side in the vinegar. Then put the plate in the fridge. There you can store the lemon for several days.
