Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 large tomatoes, green
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 ml milk
  • 240 g flour
  • 120 g corn flour
  • 120 g breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 liter of oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Cut the green tomatoes into slices about 1 cm thick. Discard the ends. Whisk the milk and eggs in a bowl. Place the flour on a plate. In another deep plate, mix the cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Heat a generous amount of oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Coat the tomato slices on both sides, first in the flour, then in the egg, and then in the breadcrumb mixture. Press them down firmly. Place 4 tomato slices at a time in the pan and fry until browned. Drain the tomatoes on paper towels. Good food from the southern United States. Ya’ll come now!
