As the name suggests, the Fuji is a Japanese variety that now also feels at home in Germany. The fruits are medium-sized and typically slightly asymmetrical. The light green skin with crimson streaks is firm, smooth, and fragrant.
Origin
Fuji originated in Japan around 1939 from a cross between Rall’s Janet and Red Delicious. It was first put on the market in 1962.
Season
Mount Fuji is ripe for consumption from November to June.
Taste
The greenish flesh is firm and extremely aromatic. The taste is sweet, the acidity is very low.
Use
Ideal for fresh consumption, but also suitable for cooking.
Storage
High humidity and a temperature of around 5 °C are the best conditions for storing the Fuji apple variety. If these conditions are met, this variety can be stored until July. Apples should not be stored together with other types of fruit or vegetables because the plant hormone ethylene causes other fruits to wilt more quickly. Several apples, on the other hand, can be stored together without hesitation, preferably in the refrigerator or in a cool room. After purchase, however, Fuji should not be stored for longer than a month under optimal conditions.
