Gala Must – Colorful Apple Variety

This variety differs from the other Gala types in its flat covering color. It is bright red and partly colored with a touch of pink. This variety is characterized by relatively small, but all the more aromatic fruits. Its skin is marbled in golden yellow and orange-red. It feels smooth and slightly waxy. The fruits are tall and medium-sized.

Origin

Gala is a cross between Kidd’s Orange and Golden Delicious found in New Zealand in 1931. From 1960 Gala was marketed worldwide. Plant variety protection for the red type Gala Must has existed since 1990.

Season

Gala Must is ready for consumption from the end of September to March.

Taste

The yellow flesh is firm and moderately juicy, but very sweet and aromatic and slightly sour.

Use

Gala is a popular table apple, but can also be used in many ways as a kitchen apple.

Storage

The Gala Must apple variety also stores well. At a correspondingly cool temperature of approx. 4 °C, the apple stays fresh and crisp. It is best to always store apples in the refrigerator and not together with other types of fruit. Due to the emission of ethylene, bananas and other fruit can wilt more quickly and therefore have to be eaten more quickly. Gala Must should be consumed within a week at room temperature; it will keep longer in the refrigerator.
