Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 500 g toast, e.g. three-grain or whole-grain toast, which gives the dumplings a little more substance
- 2 tbsp margarine
- 1 large onion(s)
- 250 ml milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp, heaped flour
- 1 tsp marjoram or to taste
- Salt
- e.g. breadcrumbs
Instructions
Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
with marjoram
Cut the toast into cubes and place in a large bowl. Heat the margarine in a pan, finely chop the onions, and sauté in the margarine until translucent. Add the milk and, when warm, pour it all over the toast cubes. Add the eggs with a good pinch of salt, the flour, and marjoram, and mix everything well, preferably by hand. If the dough is too mushy, firm it up a bit with breadcrumbs. Prepare a bowl of cold water and breadcrumbs, dip your hands in the water, take a piece of dough, shape it into a dumpling, and sprinkle some breadcrumbs over it at the end. Place the dumplings in a large pot of boiling water and let them simmer for about 10 minutes. This recipe makes about 8-10 dumplings.
