Gyros Spaghetti Casserole

Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 500g spaghetti
  • 800 g pork, seasoned (gyros)
  • 1 can of mushrooms
  • 2 onions
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 bottle of sauce (pepper steak sauce)
  • 200 ml milk
  • 200 g sheep’s cheese
  • 1 shot of Metaxa
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder
  • 100 g cheese, grated
  • oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente, drain, rinse, and transfer to a large baking dish. Sear the gyro in a little oil and arrange it on top of the spaghetti. Dice the onions and garlic and fry in the oil. Drain the mushrooms, reserving the liquid. Add the mushrooms to the pan, fry briefly, and then transfer everything to the dish. Combine the sour cream, pepper sauce, and milk in a saucepan and heat. Crumble in the feta cheese and stir until the cheese has melted. Season the sauce to taste with Metaxa, salt, pepper, and paprika, then pour it evenly over the casserole. Sprinkle with cheese and bake at 180°C for about 30 minutes.
