Gyros Steaks in Ouzo Cream

The perfect gyros steaks in ouzo cream recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 2 Onions
  • 500 g Mixed minced meat
  • 1 Egg size M
  • 2 tbsp Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Gyros spice
  • Salt pepper
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Flour
  • 200 g Whipped cream
  • 4 tbsp Ouzo
  • 100 g Grated Gouda or whole
  • 1 small bunch Chives
  1. Peel and finely dice the onions, knead the minced meat, egg, breadcrumbs and half of the onion cubes. Season with gyros and season with salt and pepper. Shape the mixture into 4 flat steaks. Heat the oil in an ovenproof pan. Fry the steaks in it for about 3 minutes on each side.
  2. Preheat the grill of the oven. Heat the butter in a pan. Braise the rest of the onion in it. Dust with flour and sauté briefly. Deglaze with cream and 200 ml of water, bring to the boil and simmer for 3-4 minutes while stirring. Season with ouzo, salt and pepper.
  3. Pour the sauce over the steaks, spread the cheese over them. Bake under the hot grill for 3-4 minutes until the cheese has melted.
  4. Wash the chives, shake dry and cut into fine rolls. Sprinkle the steaks with it. Serve with flatbread or rice.
  5. Tip 5: If you don’t have ouzo at home, you can also use any other aniseed schnapps such as raki, pernod or sambuca. For the English version you can also use whiskey, for the German version a little beer.
