Ham and cheese sauce with peas

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 50 g butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 can of peas, 400 g each
  • e.g. milk
  • 1 pack of cream cheese, approx. 200 g each
  • 200 g cooked ham
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Cut the cooked ham into small cubes. Drain the peas, reserving the liquid. Melt the butter. Stir in the flour until there are no lumps. Stir until it begins to brown. Add the pea liquid and enough milk, stirring constantly, to form a thin sauce. Gradually add the processed cheese over low heat and melt. Be careful with the temperature: if it’s too hot, the sauce will burn. If it’s too cold, the cheese won’t melt. If the sauce is too thick, add a little more milk. Stir in the peas and ham. Season the sauce with salt and pepper and slowly bring to the desired temperature. The sauce goes perfectly with pasta.
