a MUST at Christmas
Heat the honey, sugar, and butter while stirring until smooth. Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Finely dice the candied orange and lemon peel and knead into a dough with all the other ingredients. Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thick and cut out hearts. Place these on a baking tray and bake at 220°C for about 10-15 minutes. Spread with jam while still warm, sandwiching the hearts together in pairs. Allow to cool completely and then cover half of the hearts with chocolate coating. Store these hearts in a suitable container for about 4 weeks. Cover with parchment paper and place slices of wholemeal bread or apple peels on top. This will make the cookies nice and crumbly. Caution! Do not leave the bread or peels on the cookies for too long, as this could cause mold or the cookies to become too moist.
