Grandma Erika’s Iron Cake, made with an ice cream cone maker. Simple, but not quick!
Mix the softened butter with sugar, eggs, flour, rum, and cinnamon until smooth. Heat the ice cream cone maker and brush it with a little oil using a pastry brush. Then add a good teaspoon of batter to the hot lower iron, close the lid, and bake the waffles for 20 to 25 seconds each. Carefully remove the finished waffles from the iron and place them on a cold surface. Let them cool flat or shape them into waffle cones as needed. Note: The hot iron only needs to be brushed with oil once. This is to prevent the first waffle from burning. Therefore, the first waffle won’t be particularly tasty and can be discarded because it contains too much oil. The total baking time for all waffles is 1 to 1.5 hours. This recipe yields roughly 50 waffles. You’ll definitely get lots and lots of waffles!
