Idiots – White Bread

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 4 tbsp sugar, optionally more for a sweet bread
  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 250 ml water or milk, lukewarm
  • 1 cube of yeast
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • possibly almond(s)
  • possibly raisins
  • egg yolk for brushing

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Put the flour in a bowl and make a well in the center. Sprinkle the sugar into this well. Add the butter to the edge of the well. Crumble the yeast cube and dissolve it in the liquid. Pour the yeast liquid into the center of the well and mix it with a little flour from the edge to form a pre-dough. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 40 minutes. Now add the salt and knead the dough thoroughly. Cover again and let it rise for another 40 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the bread for 40 minutes. The bread also tastes delicious with raisins or chopped almonds in the dough! It looks especially beautiful if you brush it with egg yolk before baking.
