Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 250 ml beer, porter or a German dark strong beer
  • 250 g butter
  • 250 g brown sugar
  • 1 kg fruits, dried
  • 500 g flour
  • ½ tsp Baking soda , available in the pharmacy if in doubt
  • 1 tsp spice mix
  • n. B. Lemon(s) – peel, grated
  • 3 m.-sized eggs

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Irish Porter Cake

In a pan, melt the butter and sugar in the porter. Add the dried fruit and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Let cool, then add the sifted flour, baking soda, spices, and lemon zest. Whisk the eggs and mix them in with a wooden spoon. Pour the batter into a greased 25 cm round cake pan. Bake for about 1 3/4 hours at 160 degrees Celsius. The cake is cooked through when a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan.
