Recipe from Tennessee
Heat the onions, garlic, and whiskey in a pan, but do not boil. After about 10 minutes, remove from the heat, light the flame, and wait until the flame has gone out. If that doesn’t work, adding another shot of whiskey won’t hurt. Then add all the remaining ingredients, bring to a boil briefly, and let it simmer over medium heat for about 20 minutes. Stir frequently. If you prefer a smoother sauce, you can pass it through a sieve at the end. Otherwise, simply pour it into boiled jars or bottles and store in the refrigerator. It will keep for several weeks. It’s usually used up after the barbecue season. The ingredients may be a bit unusual, but they’re worth the investment. I’ve always brought liquid smoke back from the States. But now you can also buy it in Germany from various online shops. It lasts forever, and you only need very small amounts.
