English breakfast rolls – not very sweet

First, preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and mix together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Then, add the buttermilk, sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt to a bowl and mix briefly. Now knead in the flour mixture. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about 1.5–2 cm (0.5–0.8 in) and cut out shapes as desired (I got about 20 flowers with a diameter of about 1.5 cm (0.5 in). Place these on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake for about 12 minutes (depending on the size). If you like, you can also add raisins, cranberries, or chocolate chips to the rolls, or brush them lightly with egg or milk before baking. They taste particularly good with quark and fresh lemon curd (in my recipes).
