Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 450 g flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 90 g margarine, vegan, melted
  • 300 ml soy milk (soy drink) or rice milk

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Original English scones, perfect for Sunday breakfast

Preheat the oven to 210°C (top/bottom heat). Combine the flour with the baking powder and salt. Mix the melted margarine with the milk and slowly pour it into the dry ingredients, stirring everything together. The dough only needs to be mixed very roughly and briefly; about 20 seconds is enough. If the dough is too homogenous or if it is made with a machine, the rolls will be too dense and won’t rise properly. Roll out the dough to about 3 cm thick or flatten it with your hands and cut out circles with a glass. Bake for about 10 minutes, until the scones are golden brown.
