Kanzi – Bright Red Apple Variety

Spread the love

The Kanzi apple is small to medium-sized, stalk-shaped, tall, and has a regularly smooth skin. The top color is predominantly red.

Origin

The variety was bred in collaboration with the University of Leuven and the Johan Nicolaï nursery in Belgium. Cultivation in Germany takes place on the Lower Elbe and on Lake Constance. The variety name is Nicoter, the brand name is Kanzi®. The Kanzi® is a cross between Gala and Braeburn.

Season

The Kanzi is ready for consumption from October to May.

Taste

The flesh is very firm and crunchy. The Kanzi is juicy, slightly more acidic, and aromatic than the Gala. A very attractive taste, with a balanced sugar-acid ratio.

Use

The Kanzi is particularly suitable for apple tarts and apple compote.

Storage

Like many other apple varieties, the somewhat sour Kanzi® can be stored very well under the right conditions. It is in good hands in the refrigerator, because there is a certain level of humidity, darkness, and a good temperature. These are the best conditions for keeping apples like the Kanzi® variety fresh and crisp for a long time. To prevent other fruits from wilting faster, it is best to always store apples separately – in their own compartment in the refrigerator or in their own bowl. At room temperature, it is recommended to eat apples within a week. Of course, they have a much longer shelf life if they are stored refrigerated.

What do Kanzi apples taste like?

The KANZI apple is the perfect blend of a juicy Gala and a tangy-sweet Braeburn. It has a perfectly balanced sweet and tangy flavor and a crisp texture, making it the perfect choice for preparing delicious dishes. Dishes that not only taste great but also give you back the energy you need.

Are Kanzi apples good for eating?

Kanzi. Meet Jazz’s little sister! Effervescent but more subtle than its sibling, Kanzi was specifically bred as a dessert variety. The crunch makes it a delicious, sweet snack on its own, a perfect accompaniment to strong cheeses like gorgonzola or the ideal apple for baking a pie.

How sweet is a Kanzi apple?

The marketing literature suggests that Kanzi is a crimson-red but all the examples we have seen are red-orange. It is a good firm fairly crisp apple, with a mild but pleasant apple flavour, slightly sharp rather than sweet and quite juicy.

What are Kanzi apples good for?

Like all apples, Kanzi apples have virtually no protein or fat, supply a range of vitamins and minerals (especially potassium), and are a good source of fibre, particularly pectin fibre, which helps keep blood cholesterol low. They are a good source of polyphenols and natural fruit sugars (fructose with some glucose).
