Kohlhack – Cabbage rolls for lazy people

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 head of white cabbage, approx. 2 kg
  • 1 kg minced meat, mixed
  • 1 tbsp lard
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 150 g bacon, diced, streaky
  • 400 ml meat broth (possibly more, depending on the quality of the pot)
  • 1 tsp caraway or 0.5 tsp ground
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 point sauce (gravy)

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Mecklenburg specialty

Trim the white cabbage and cut into coarse strips. In a casserole dish, melt the lard and bacon, then fry the diced onions until translucent. Brown the minced meat in it. Add the white cabbage and simmer over high heat, stirring constantly. Once the cabbage has wilted, add the stock and seasonings, reduce the heat, and simmer gently with the lid on. When the cabbage is tender, stir the gravy into the hot liquid.
