Mix the sauce ingredients together. Add the herring, whole or cut into pieces, as desired, to the sauce and stir to combine. Let it marinate overnight in the refrigerator. Since the sauce is low in fat (depending on the ingredients, it can be stirred until creamy), you only need to pay attention to the fat in the herring. You can also try it with herring (matjes)! It goes very well with parsley potatoes and crispy fried potatoes!
