Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 6 rolls, stale or
  • 14 slice(s) toast bread, dry
  • 1 liter of milk
  • 100 g poppy seeds, ground
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 50 g butter
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • 1 lemon(s), untreated, zest
  • n. B. Dessert sauce (vanilla flavor)

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Cut the rolls or toast into pieces, place in a baking dish, and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bring the milk, honey, vanilla sugar, lemon zest, and butter to a gentle boil and pour over the rolls. Bake in the oven at 175°C for about 20 minutes. Serve with vanilla sauce. Variation 1: Also delicious cold; refrigerate at least overnight. Then eat it with whipped cream. Variation 2: With eggs. Separate 4 eggs. Bring the egg yolks and milk mixture to a boil, stirring continuously. Whisk the egg whites with sugar (use less honey for the milk, otherwise it will be too sweet) and spread on top.
