Make your own tomato paste from fresh tomatoes
To make healthy tomato paste, you only need a few ingredients:
- From 1.5 kg of fresh tomatoes and a tablespoon of salt, you get about 300 ml of tomato paste. For storage, you need tightly sealable jars.
- Wash the tomatoes thoroughly. Halve the tomatoes and cut out the stalk.
- Place the vegetables in a household blender. This will give you the best result. But a blender can also be used.
- Blend the tomatoes to a pulp.
- If you do not have one of these devices, cut the tomatoes as small as possible before further preparation.
- Then boil the tomatoes before straining them through a sieve.
- Now put the tomato mixture in a saucepan with the salt.
- Mix well and let the tomatoes come to a boil first. Then let everything boil down on a low flame for several hours until the consistency you want is reached.
Save homemade tomato paste
- After your tomato paste is ready, pour the mass into sterilized screw-top jars while it is still hot.
- You can keep the tomato paste in the fridge for about 4 weeks.
- If you have an opened glass, simply put some olive oil on it. This preserves and you can keep the contents fresh for several days without having to worry about mold.
- You can also freeze the jars with tomato paste. This means you have fresh tomato paste available all winter long.
