Fry the tomato paste – this is how you do it correctly
If you want to prepare a particularly spicy and aromatic dish, you should fry the tomato paste briefly. You can read about the effect of this here.
- If you use tomato paste for a recipe, you should first lightly roast it before further processing.
- Frying reduces the acidity in the tomato paste. In addition, it is slightly caramelized and thus develops a caramel-like roasted aroma. The tomato paste becomes more flavorful as a result of frying.
- Put some oil in a saucepan together with a can or tube of tomato paste and heat the ingredients. Lightly fry the tomato paste on low heat. Then deglaze it with the cooking liquid.
- Tip: To give the tomato paste an intensely spicy taste, you can also fry it together with an onion and some garlic.
