Make Tzatziki Yourself – That’s How it Works

Tzaziki is a must in Greek cuisine and is the perfect dip to make yourself. The side dish for garlic lovers is usually served with bread or other appetizers. We will explain how the preparation works.

Make tzatziki yourself – it’s that easy

The quantities in our recipe are enough for two people. If you are cooking for a larger group, extrapolate the ingredients accordingly.

  • For delicious tzatziki, you need 250 grams of Greek yogurt. This has a higher fat content and is therefore an ideal flavor carrier for the other ingredients. If you want to cut calories, use the same amount of regular or low-fat yogurt.
  • You will also need half a cucumber, a large clove of garlic, and a tablespoon of olive oil. Prepare salt and pepper for seasoning.
  • You have to drain the cucumber beforehand. Halve the vegetables and remove the seeds in the middle. The easiest way to do this is with a spoon.
  • Then either uses a grater to grate the cucumber or cut it into small cubes yourself. Put the chopped cucumber in a sieve and sprinkle some salt over it. Give the salt half an hour to draw the water out of the vegetables.
  • Meanwhile, chop the garlic very finely and stir it into the yogurt along with the olive oil. If you don’t like chunks of garlic, you can also grind it into a paste in a blender.
  • If the cucumber has lost enough water, squeeze it out again with a kitchen towel. Mix the squeezed mass with the yogurt.
  • Finally, season your tzatziki with salt and pepper.
