How to make cake glaze yourself
You only need three ingredients for a cake glaze: a tablespoon of potato starch or cornstarch, two tablespoons of sugar, and 250 ml of water.
- Put the potato starch and sugar in a small bowl and mix the two ingredients with a tablespoon of water.
- Bring the remaining water to a boil in a small saucepan.
- Then add the potato starch and sugar mixture to the boiling water and stir constantly.
- Boil everything for half a minute. But always make sure that no lumps form. So keep stirring constantly.
- Allow the frosting to cool for half a minute and then spread it over the cake.
How to vary the homemade cake glaze
You can vary your cake glaze as you wish.
- To get a clear, translucent frosting, use potato or cornstarch.
- If you don’t have potato starch on hand, you can use cornstarch. However, the cake glaze with this ingredient becomes cloudy.
- If you want a red frosting, simply replace the water with red juice. Red grape or cherry juice, for example, is suitable for this. Raspberry syrup is also a good alternative.
- With pureed fruit in the right color, you give your cake glaze a fresh color and aroma. If you don’t have any fruit to puree, take a spoonful of jam, such as apricot jam, and boil it up with the other ingredients.
- If you want a transparent frosting but want a fruity note, replace the water with white grape juice, for example.
