Meatballs in cheese sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 rolls from the previous day
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 700 ml milk
  • 100 g bacon cut into small cubes
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 800 g minced meat
  • 3 eggs
  • Salt and pepper from the mill
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 200 g grated cheese (e.g. Gouda)
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Soak the rolls in 200 ml of milk. Finely chop the onion and fry with the bacon in 1 tablespoon of oil. Squeeze out the excess liquid from the rolls, mix with the minced meat, eggs, bacon, and onion, and season with salt and pepper. Form meatballs, fry in 3 tablespoons of oil, and place in a baking dish. Melt the butter, sprinkle with flour, deglaze with 500 ml of milk, and melt 100 g of cheese. Pour the sauce over the balls and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 150°C for about 10 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
