Mirabelle – The Small Yellow Stone Fruit

The bright yellow-green summer fruit is a subspecies of the plum. The small, spherical plums, the size of a cherry, impress with their fine fragrance and fruity, spicy aroma.

Origin

Mirabelles originally come from Asia. The plum species was created through various crossings. In the 16th century, the fruit reached Europe via Persia. Due to the ideal climatic conditions, she quickly became at home.

Season

From the end of July to September, juicy fruits are available everywhere.

Taste

Mirabelles taste finely spicy, sweet, and wonderfully refreshing. The flesh comes off the stone easily.

Use

The yellow-green fruits taste delicious on their own. A large proportion of Mirabelle plums are processed into liqueurs or fruit brandies. Pickled with spices such as star anise and cinnamon, as a compote, jam, or topping for cakes or tarts – Mirabelle plum recipes always taste delicious.

Storage

Process or enjoy mirabelle plums as soon as possible after purchase.

Durability

Mirabelle plums spoil quite quickly. The pods stay fresh for up to two days in the refrigerator.
