Mom's vanilla sauce

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • ½ liter of milk
  • ½ vanilla pod(s)
  • 30 g sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 15 g cornstarch
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

from grandma’s time

Take a little of the 1/2 liter of milk and whisk it well with the cornstarch and egg yolk. Halve the vanilla pod and scrape out the excess oil. Bring the remaining milk to a boil in a saucepan with the vanilla, sugar, and salt (similar to making pudding). Turn off the heat, thicken, and simmer for half a minute. Tip: You can put the empty vanilla pods in a screw-top jar with plenty of sugar and store them in the refrigerator. This is called REAL VANILLA SUGAR.
