Sweet bread soup according to my grandma
First, we spend some time collecting old rolls, white bread (also with raisins), and toast, or we simply buy the ingredients fresh from the bakery. Then we dice the bread into bite-sized pieces and put it in a pot. We fill the pot with milk until the bread floats in and season with sugar, vanilla sugar, and a pinch of salt. You can also add raisins or currants, if you like. We then let it soak for a while until the milk is well absorbed. Now add a little cream and/or a knob of butter and bring to a boil. I’m not saying this is lean cuisine, but that’s exactly how my grandma described it to me. A typical poor man’s meal from the economic miracle era, spiced up. I loved it!
