In contrast to ordinary calories, the so-called negative calories should not make you fat. And not only that: Negative calories are said to be able to reduce excess pounds.

  • It is known that there are different types of calories, such as the so-called good fats, which are essential for the body, and the less good fats. While the body urgently needs the essential fats and also uses them better, other calories, such as sugar combined with simple fats, are not good for your health and make you fat.
  • Of course, there are also foods that have very few calories, such as cucumber and tomatoes, and still contain important nutrients for our health. In addition, a large portion of salad fills you up and you have supplied your body with healthy nutrients at the same time.
  • Foods with so-called negative calories are said to be characterized by the fact that your body uses up more calories than you take in with food. Therefore, these calories are referred to as negative or minus calories.

Can Negative Calories Help You Lose Weight?

The foods that are said to be characterized by fabulous negative calories include, for example, pineapple, grapefruit, blueberries, dandelion, turnips, or celery.

  • All foods that are said to have negative calories have one thing in common: they contain few calories anyway. So if you mainly eat such foods, your body will automatically consume fewer calories than you use. This results in natural weight loss. However, this has nothing to do with negative calories. A large dandelion salad has significantly fewer calories than pasta with cream sauce and a lot of bacon and ice cream for dessert.
  • The foods that are said to have negative calories are healthy and good for the figure at the same time. Neither pineapples nor dandelions have magical powers. If you eat unhealthy high-calorie food all day long, a piece of pineapple in the evening will certainly not protect you from the consequences.
  • Incidentally, this also applies to the often invoked negative calorie effect of ice water. Ice water itself does not actually have any calories, but it is said to be able to encourage the body to burn calories. It is true that the body uses energy to bring itself back to normal temperature. However, the calorie consumption is so negligible that it is basically not worth mentioning. However, in summer you have the unpleasant effect that you sweat even more than before a short time after drinking ice water.
