Onion lard from the slow cooker

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 250 g lard
  • 1 medium-sized onion(s), finely chopped
  • 1 tsp, leveled paprika powder
  • 1 tsp, leveled herbal salt (e.g. sage salt)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 7 hours; Total time approx. 7 hours 10 minutes

The long cooking time gives the lard its very intense flavor

Brown the diced onions in 1-2 teaspoons of lard in a pan. Place all ingredients in a small 1.5 liter slow cooker and simmer on high for 5 hours and then on low for 2 hours. Pour into jars while hot and seal them. While the lard is setting, turn the jars occasionally to distribute the onions. Store in the refrigerator and enjoy on black bread or farmhouse bread, perhaps with a pinch of salt. Enjoy with a cold beer. A dream… If you don’t have a 1.5 liter slow cooker, use one with a 3.5 liter capacity, for example, put a water bath in it and place a small sealable pot with the lard in it. It is important that no water gets into the lard.
