Onion pan, Dad's style

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 50 g bacon, fat, diced
  • 100 g bacon, streaky, diced
  • 6 onions
  • 2 slices of brown bread
  • salt and pepper
  • Caraway, optional

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Slice or grate the onions. Fry the fatty bacon over moderate heat. When it’s translucent, add the streaky bacon. Fry for a bit longer. Then add the onions and let them caramelize slowly. Don’t get impatient and turn the heat up too high. The onions need time. If you put a lid on the pan, it will cook a little faster. When the onions are soft and have taken on some color, season with salt, pepper, and if you like, a little caraway. If you don’t like caraway seeds, you can also add ground caraway. This way you won’t have as much flavor, but the effect will be the same. Spoon onto the brown bread and serve.
