Purchasing and storage

Apple cider vinegar is available cloudy or as a filtered product. Naturally cloudy varieties contain residual particles from the skin and pulp, so-called suspended matter. You should keep the bottles cool, dark and tightly closed, then vinegar will keep indefinitely. This is also the reason why no best-before date is given on the products. The situation is different with homemade vinegar that has not been pasteurized, i.e. heated. However, if stored correctly, it usually lasts for up to two years.

Kitchen tips for apple cider vinegar

Like other types of vinegar, apple cider vinegar has an acidity of 5 to 15.5 percent. Thanks to its fruity taste, it can be used in many ways. Classic recipes with apple cider vinegar include salad dressings and marinades, but you can also use it for preserving and pickling. The fruit vinegar also tastes delicious as an ingredient in drinks such as the Gin Switchel. However, be cautious with the dosage of apple cider vinegar – especially already acidic drinks such as a citrus-mint switchel may otherwise become undrinkable.
