Original Berlin Currywurst

The perfect original berlin currywurst recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

Curry sauce:

  • 1 Onion
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 1 Chilli pepper
  • 40 ml Pineapple juice
  • 100 ml Vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 500 g Chunky tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp White wine vinegar
  • 5 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Curry powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika powder
  • 0,5 tsp Chilli flakes
  • 1 pinch Salt

French fries:

  • 2 kg Floury potatoes
  • 2 tbsp Salt
  • Frying oil

Aside from that:

  • Curry powder
  1. Sauté the diced onions until translucent and caramelize with brown sugar. Add all the ingredients and simmer for 30 – 45 minutes. Then remove the cinnamon sticks and whole chili peppers and puree them finely. Finally pass everything through a sieve.
  2. Fry the sausages in oil until golden brown.
  3. Peel the potatoes, cut them into even strips, and fry them in hot fat until golden brown. Salt at the end.
  4. Arrange the sausage on a plate or in the bowl, add the sauce and season lightly with curry powder. French fries with it – done!
