  • oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

delicious, spicy, quick to make

Dice the onion and ham as finely as possible. Fry both in a little oil for about 15 minutes, then let cool. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Unroll a packet of puff pastry, leaving the paper still on, and spread the onion and ham mixture and a good half a packet of grated cheese on the pastry. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top. Peel back the paper. Brush the puff pastry with the beaten egg and then sprinkle with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, caraway seeds, herbs, etc., as desired. Sprinkle half of the remaining cheese on top. Turn the whole thing over with the paper, peel back the paper, and spread and sprinkle the other side. Then cut the pastry sheet into 6 long or 24 short strips. Place the strips, twisting slightly into a spiral, on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Don’t be surprised, the strips seem a bit unstable with the filling when placed on top, but it will “bake” together.
