Pears, beans and bacon

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 200 g bacon, streaky in one piece
  • 500 ml water
  • 500 g broad beans
  • 2 sprigs savory, fresh or 1 tsp dried
  • 4 small pears (cooking pears)
  • Salt and pepper, black, fresh

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

just like grandma’s…

Cook the bacon in 1/2 liter of water for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, trim and wash the beans, then break them open once. Add them to the bacon along with the washed savory and cook for another 10 minutes. Meanwhile, wash the pears and remove the blossoms, then add the fruit, stems included, to the bacon and cook for another 15 minutes. Remove the bacon and slice it. Season the dish with salt and pepper. Transfer to a bowl and place the bacon slices on top. Serve with boiled potatoes. NOTE: I got this recipe exactly like this from my grandmother, and she usually only cooked for two people. So you may have to multiply the ingredients, but CK does it all.
