Pinova glows golden yellow and can be up to three-quarters covered in bright orange-red. Typical of this variety is the slight heart shape with a flat base and narrow calyx group.
Origin
Pinova comes from the Institute for Fruit Research in Dresden-Pillnitz. Therefore, the name of the variety begins with “P”. Pinova descends from Golden Delicious and Clivia (crossbreed of Dr. Oldenburg and Cox Orange). Thus, the Pinova combines the good taste of Cox Orange with the good crop yields of Privy Councilor Dr. Oldenburg and Golden Delicious.
Season
Pinova is ripe for consumption from October to May.
Taste
The firm, yellowish flesh is aromatic and sweet with low acidity. Nice side effect: the longer it is stored, the sweeter it becomes.
Use
Pinova is a very good dessert apple, but is also used in cooking and baking.
Storage
In order to preserve vitamins, taste and freshness, Pinova, like many other varieties of apples, is best stored in a cool attic, in a cool room, or in the refrigerator. Apples secrete the natural plant hormone ethylene, so they should not be stored with ethylene-sensitive fruits and vegetables. If you use Pinova at room temperature e.g. B. stored in a fruit bowl, the apples should best be enjoyed within a week. In general, apples have a fairly long shelf life compared to other types of fruit and vegetables, but of course they taste best fresh.
