Plov – All in One Rice Pot

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 2 onions, finely diced
  • 50 ml oil, tasteless
  • 300 g beef, and/or pork, and/or chicken
  • 250 g rice
  • Water, hot
  • salt and pepper
  • e.g. saffron

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Russian family recipe

Remove any impurities from the meat and cut into small cubes. Sauté the carrots and onions in a pan until translucent. Add the meat and brown slightly, then add the rice and oil to the pan and brown slightly. Don’t be alarmed by the amount of oil; the dish shouldn’t be too dry; after all, it’s just meat and rice. Season with salt and pepper and add a little saffron for color, if desired. Pour hot water until about two fingers’ width above the rice; do not mix! Cover and simmer on low heat for 35 minutes. It’s best not to open the pan halfway through. Mix everything thoroughly at the end. Without any fuss, you have a simple but delicious rice dish.
