Poppy seed layer dish

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 liter of milk
  • 200 g sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 60 g raisins
  • 250 g poppy seeds, ground
  • 100 g almond(s), chopped
  • 1 white bread (500 g white loaf)

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 8 hours; Total time approx. 8 hours 30 minutes

Boil 1/2 liter of milk with 100g sugar, 1 pinch of salt, and raisins. Add poppy seeds and let them swell. Stir in 3/4 of the almonds. Cut the crust off the white bread and cut into slices about 2cm thick. Place on a baking sheet. Gently heat the remaining milk with the sugar until the sugar dissolves. Soak the bread in it. In a large glass bowl, alternate layers of poppy seeds and white bread (the poppy seeds should be on top) and sprinkle with the remaining almonds. Chill for a while (overnight).
