Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 20 g yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 40 g sugar
  • 50 g butter
  • 250 ml milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 egg(s)
  • Poppy seeds for sprinkling

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

or single-strand braids

Put the flour in a bowl and make a small well. Melt the butter and gently warm the milk. Pour the milk into the well and dissolve the yeast in it, then let it rise for about 10 minutes. Then add the sugar, salt, 1 egg yolk, and the melted butter. Make a fairly firm dough. Knead thoroughly, cover, and let it rise for about 30 minutes. When the dough has doubled in size, divide the dough into 10 portions, form rolls, and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Just before baking, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C for about 15 minutes. You can also make single-strand braids from the dough; these also look very nice.
