Poppy Seed Stick

The perfect poppy seed stick recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 packet Dry yeast
  • 0,25 liter Lukewarm water
  • 500 g Wheat flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • For brushing:
  • Milk
  • To sprinkle:
  • Poppy
  1. Mix the yeast with a little lukewarm water as instructed and let rise for about 10 minutes.
  1. Put the flour, salt and remaining water in a bowl, spread the yeast over it and knead everything until the dough loosens from the edge of the bowl. Dust the dough with flour and cover and let rise in a warm place for 60 minutes.
  1. Then divide the dough into 6 equal pieces on a baking board. Roll these out thinly with a rolling pin and twist them into sticks. Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and let rise for another 10 minutes.
  1. Brush with milk and sprinkle poppy seeds on top. Bake at 200 degrees for about 20 minutes.
